Taking Root

Taking Root, Saturday, March 21st, 2-4 PM. Who will join me? Social Cinema is part of Independent Lens, a monthly film series hosted in partnership with Boston Cares, WGBH, ITVS Community Cinema, Hostelling International and The Boston Public Library. The Independent Lens series offers preview screenings of films covering a range of social issues. It is intended to connect communities with organizations and information , and give citizens the opportunity to get involved. Taking Root tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy-a movement for which this charismatic woman became an iconic inspiration.
